Abstract

325,143. Legge, J. E., and Legge & Co., Ltd., J. March 14, 1929. Latches, sliding.- The turning of the follower A of a latchoperating mechanism in either direction causes one of its two horns a to engage an abutment b of a slider B to move it hack against the action of a spring J, the slider being pivoted to a lever C pivoted to the lock case and providing the sole operable connection to the latch bolt tail D. The slider B is pivoted at an intermediate point c of the lever C, and nearer to the pivot c<1> than the connection of the lever to the latch bolt tail. The abutments b are formed as bent-up tongues of the sheet metal plate B, and the bent-up tongues e of the sheet metal lever C engage the latch bolt tail. The pivot c is in the same horizontal line as the axis of the follower. In a modified construction, the spring J is connected to a lever which is connected to the lever C by a pin-and-slot connection.
