Abstract

324,657. Perl, A. H. F. Oct. 30, 1928. Pliers for holding the half cotter sleeves 3, 4, Fig. 1, whilst assembling them on the valve stem 1 have the jaws provided with pairs of pivoted holding members 20 - - 23 hooked over at the ends 34 - - 37 and engaged by springs 30, 31 so as to retain the cotter parts 3, 4 in the jaws; when the latter are closed on the valve stem the holding members contact with each other, being thereby forced open, and the cotter parts are released. Fig. 6 shows a modification with holding members in the form of semicircular springs 34, 35 bent back at the ends and held by bent over tabs 36, 37. The cotter parts are held more securely by magnetising the holding members.
