Fluid-pressure-In a compressed air brake controlled by a rotary slide valve 3, the operating lever 4 engages a spring-controlled stop 1 when the valve has opened to a slight extent in order to noticeably increase the resistance to the movement of the lever so that the valve is opened and the brakes applied gradually and emergency braking is obtained by an increased expenditure of force in pushing the stop back against the spring. In order that the operator may estimate the brake pressure the lever 4 is connected to the piston of a cylinder 5 connected to the pipe leading to the brake cylinders. This cylinder forces the brake pedal back against the operator's foot pressure to reclose the control valve, in order that a definite brake pressure may be obtained. The invention is shown applied to a vehicle with three axles, the brake cylinder being mounted on the front wheel brake covers and on the rear axle casings. Brake cylinders may be mounted on a compensating beam on which the two rear axles are mounted. Air is compressed through a regulator into tanks.
