Abstract

324,155. Thompson, O. B. Nov. 16, 1928. Diaphragms; magnetic instruments.-The diaphragm and moving-coil unit of a loud-speaker is carried from a supporting frame by a plurality of arms or links whose points of attachment to the diaphragm and points of suspension from the frame lie in the vertical plane of gravity of the unit and are angularly displaced relatively to one another. In the construction shown, the diaphragm D consists of a small central cone 1 carrying the moving coil C and frustums W, 3, the periphery 3<1> of frustum 3 being connected to the frame F by a ring or annular plate d. Slits s are made in the ring d so as to form a number of arms b<1> - - b" whose points of attachment S<1> - - S‹ are angularly removed from the points of suspension a' - - a<6>. The arms are preferably concentric with the diaphragm as shown, but may be tangential to the curve thereof. In a modified construction (Fig. 3, not shown), the points of suspension from the frame F are arranged nearer the centre of the diaphragm than the points of attachment S<1> - - S<6>. According to the Provisional Specification the diaphragm may be provided with strengthening pieces.
