Abstract
323,565. Changeable Sign Co., Ltd., Emmerson, E., and Shurly, E. Oct. 10, 1928. Stencilling.-Relates to the printing in colours of designs, lettering, &c., for use in advertising &c. The material to be coloured is first covered with a sheet of metal foil &c., which is secured by means of adhesive, and the design or lettering is cut therein. The portions intended to be coloured first are then removed, together with adhesive, so that the metal foil forms a stencil. and colour is applied to the exposed portions of the material. The coloured portion is covered with a soluble masking substance, such as petroleum jelly or indiarubber solution, after which further portions of the design are exposed and coloured. The process is repeated until the whole design is coloured, when the soluble masking substance is removed. An embossed effect may be produced by applying several superposed coats of colour to one or more portions of the design.
