Abstract
401,162. Stencils. ELLIOTT ADDRESSING MACHINE CO., 143, Albany Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A. March 1, 1933, No. 6234. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1932. [Class 100 (ii).] A blank for making stencil-sheets comprising a sheet of stencil material coated on one side with an ink-impermeable composition is provided on the other side with a colour film visible through the composition, such that the pressure of the types during the stencil-cutting operation compresses the composition and renders it opaque, whereby the characters contrast with the surrounding parts and a legible stencil is provided. As shown in connection with an addressing-machine stencil comprising a sheet of Yoshino paper 7 pasted at its edges to a paper sheet 5 held between frames 6, 6a, the sheet 7 is coated by drawing it across the surface of a bath of gelatine composition in liquid form and subsequently, in a similar manner or by painting or rolling, applying a film of colour to the other side, e.g. an orange dye such as hydrochloride of benzine-azo-meta-tolylene-diamine. When the stencil is inked, more ink is absorbed by the characters than by the surrounding parts so that the contrast is preserved. A removable panel 9 may be provided as described in Specification 394,139.
