413,982. Multi - colour printing, TILLETT, G. H., 36, Charterhouse Square, London, and TILLETTS, Ltd., 4, Vernon Street, Derby. Feb. 3, 1934, No. 3614. [Class 100 (ii).] A method of multi-colour printing consists in first printing various colour areas juxtaposed according to the required design and then superimposing on the first impression an impression in opaque ink consisting of lines bounding the various colour areas to conceal the gaps between them and any irregularities in the edges thereof. The first impression is made from a printing member consisting of a frame 2 provided with strips 3 forming the design, the spaces between the strips being filled with pads provided with colour from beneath by wicks or, as shown, from ink containers 4 through pipes 5. A roller or plate 6 is applied to the printing member and an impression therefrom is transferred to a sheet 7 of paper, silk, leather, wood, &c. A silk screen stencil 8 for printing the bounding lines and carried by pivoted arms 10, is then applied to the sheet and opaque ink is applied therethrough by a roller or squeegee. The roller 6 may be engraved to produce shaded or half-tone effects.
