Abstract

456,818. Colour photography. WINTER, E. H., 51, Muristrasse, Berne, Switzerland. May 13, 1935, No. 14013. Convention date, April 20. [Class 98 (ii)l In a process using printed multi-colour screens with regularly or irregularly distributed dots, an additional multicolour screen is placed in front of the photographic material, which has a multi-colour screen between the emulsion and the support, both in taking, contact-printing and enlarging, in such a manner that the two screens register. As shown in Fig. 3, a is the negative and associated multi-colour screen b is the additional multi-coloured screen, c is the positive emulsion, and d is the multi-colour screen between the emulsion and the paper support. As shown in Fig. 5, the contact-printing frame is provided with register pins f and holding screws g. The enlarging apparatus and the taking apparatus also have register pins. Films, papers and screens have corresponding holes. Plates are provided with pins, and those in the apparatus are dispensed with. One corner of plates, films, papers, and screens is cut off for orientation purposes. A multi-colour screen with a regular pattern is produced'by placing carbon paper on white paper, and running a pin-wheel thereover a number of times, producing a reduced photographic copy of the dot screen, and using this copy to produce four negatives, the copy being shifted for each negative. Photo-mechanical printing plates are produced from these negatives, and used for printing the four colours of the multi-colour screen. A celluloid foil is consecutively printed in black with the four printing plates, and a fifth photo-mechanical printing plate produced from this foil is used to print over the multi-colour screen in grey to cover the colourless spaces. A multicolour screen with an irregular pattern may be produced in a similar manner using celluloid foils sprayed with black oil colour. The multicolour screens may be on glass, oiled paper, celluloid, or mica foil.
