Mineral and tar oils; lubricants.-Hydrocarbons oils are made sufficiently viscous for lubricating or insulating purposes by adding products of the process of the parent Specification which are more viscous than is the desired lubricant. In an example, a spindle oil, obtained by destructively hydrogenating lignite, removing benzines and middle oils and deparaffining and purifying, is subjected in the coherent liquid phase to electric current of about 5000 volts and 2000 cycles for 44 hrs. 5-40 per cent is then added to untreated oil. Still thicker products may be obtained by conducting the electrical treatment at varied temperatures.
