Breaking - pieces for relieving strain. -In coal &c. crushing machines the rollers are driven by gear wheels through fast and loose pulleys 10, 11, the pulley 10 being fixed to the shaft by being bolted to a disc 13 keyed on the shaft. The bolts 12 securing the disc and pulley are of soft metal or wood and are adapted to be sheared when the rollers meet an obstruction.
