Power hammers; scrap, consolidating. - In a press for baling metal scrap, clippings, shearings, canisters, &c., a ram or hammer h is raised between guides j in uprights e by a rope m secured to a drum n. The drum rotates on an eccentrically mounted shaft r and is adapted to be clutched thereon to a wheel p. The shaft r is raised so that the wheel p is frictionally driven by a roller t to lift the ram, and the drum n is declutched to allow the ram to fall and compress the material in the mould a.
