Electrodes.-The two electrodes of a battery, together with the depolarizer, are enclosed in a perforated rigid non-porous jar which is placed in an outer vessel containing the electrolyte when the battery is required for use. Fig. 1 shows a waxed cardboard jar 10 provided with perforations 14 in its sides and a perforation 12 in the bottom which is placed a short distance from the lower end of the jar 10. This lower end is notched at 13 to allow electrolyte to have access to the interior of the jar through the aperture 12. The apertures 14 may be temporarily closed by a strip of waxed paper 15. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which the upper end of the perforated jar is closed by a cap 16 which when the battery is in use may be used to support the jar above the bottom of the outer vessel. The cap 16 is notched at 13 and provided with an aperture 18. Specification 225,407 is referred to.
