Abstract

328,756. Edwards, W. R. March 28, 1929. Gas exits.-An acccumulator is provided with a gas exit consisting of two rectangular compartments 11, 15, one within the other, and both depending from one of the walls 9 of the battery. The inner compartment communicates with the atmosphere through an opening 10 and is provided with a number of sloping baffles 12. The bottom of the compartment is in two parts 13, 14 which provide an opening between them, placing the inner compartment in communication with the outer compartment. The latter has a sloping or curved bottom 16 with a central opening 17 beneath which are placed bafr3es 21, 20, the latter being secured to the two extended sides 18, 19 and extending beyond all the sides of the outer compartment. Baffles 22, 23 also surround the compartment 15. Holes 24, 26 are provided in the side walls of the compartments to allow of the escape of gas if the electrolyte stands at a level sufficiently high to close the opening 17.
