Cases; cells.-In a battery of the kind in which a number of cells 3 are placed in individual compartments formed by cardboard &c. partitions 5 in a casing 2, with a view to preventing warping &c. of the closure of sealing compound due to release and expansion of gases in the cells, an air-space is left in the upper portion of each zinc cup 12, and also in the compartment around the cup, entry of sealing compound being prevented by a cover 8 of cardboard &c. for each cell. Preferably, the electrode 9 and the upper edges of the partitions 5 project above the top edge of the cup on which the cover 8 rests, so that they are embedded in the sealing wax &c. 4. As shown, each cell rests on a projection 6 formed on a cardboard base 7, and the lower ends of the cells are embedded in vÀax$c. 11. The above construction allows escape of gases by percolation through the partition 5 and outer case 2.
