Abstract

321,187. Carpmael, A., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Aug. 1, 1928. Mineral oils.-Insulatiing oils are obtained by separating from a mixture of polyalkylated naphthalenes or oxygen-free derivatives thereof, a fraction which distils above about 160‹ C. under 12-25 mm. pressure; the fractions so obtained may be refined by customary processes. The oils so obtained may be used alone or mixed with other suitable oils such as mineral oils. For example, naphthalene may be treated under pressure with a cracking gas, containing ethylene and higher homologues, in the presence of aluminium chloride, and the fraction distilling at 160-200‹ C. at 12 mm. pressure collected and mixed with an equal amount of a mineral oil of specified properties.
