Abstract

Oils suitable as lubricants, transformer and insulating oils, white oils and light paraffin, are prepared from the residue remaining after removal of an aviation alkylate fraction boiling below about 150 DEG C. from a total isobutanebutenes alkylate, said residue comprising about 5-10 per cent by volume on the total alkylate, by distilling under sub-atmospheric pressure to recover a fraction boiling between about 290 DEG and 357 DEG C. at 760 mm. In an example, the residue is distilled in a 6-plate column with a 2 : 1 reflux ratio and fractions collected at pressures from 100-2 mm. Inspection data of the combined 292-357 DEG C. fractions are given.
