Abstract

321,145. Pawlikowski, R. June 26, 1928. Cylinders. - In a powdered fuel engine the cylinder is formed with a detachable liner whose surface is harder than the solid fuel particles; in the working of the engine those particles remaining in the cylinder are crushed and pass away with the waste lubricating oil. The liner may be formed of a chilled casting, nitrite steel, or other hard alloy. It may be screwed into an outer sleeve or held in place by an alloy l poured in a molten state between the liner i and main cylinder b. This alloy is of a lower melting point than the liner or sleeve and can be removed through a bore m by heating the cylinder, when it is desired to detach the liner. The piston may have a hardened liner of the same material as the cylinder liner.
