Hydrated alkali peroxides. - Oxygen-evolving preparations suitable for use in respiratory appliances &c. are obtained by treating alkali metal peroxides under constant stirring and cooling and at normal or reduced pressure with small quantities of water vapour such as not more than 9 parts and preferably about 6 to 7 parts of water for every 100 parts of peroxide. The process may be carried out in the presence of catalysts. The preparations may be used with or without the addition of catalysts thereto. Specifications 9461/00, [Class 2, Acids and salts, Organic &c.], and 305,101, [Class 90, Non-metallic elements], are referred to.
