Abstract
320,741. Whitehouse, J. S. Sept. 26, 1928. Roofs.-In a multichambered kiln of the archless type a roof consisting of bricks removably strung on to the fixed girders or like flanged supports is arranged to extend over the chambers, and connecting passages between the chambers are formed in the roof. As shown the roof bricks 14 formed with undercut grooves 13 are suspended from longitudinal girders 12 carried by transverse beams 11, and some or all of the bricks have apertures, which form continuous ducts 15 when the roof is assembled. The bricks above the partition walls 3, and in one or more transverse rows in a chamber have vertical passages 20 adapted to take stoppers, so that the passages 15 can be put into communication either with vertical flues 6 in the wall 3 or with the kiln chambers. The apertures in the bricks are formed with spigot and socket ends 16, 17, and the sides 18 are corrugated.
