Abstract

Hand actuation; indicators, applications of.-A device for applying the brakes of a. motor vehicle when testing or adjusting the brakes comprises two relatively movable members adapted to bear respectively one against the pedal or other movable part of the brake and the other against a fixed abutment and means for measuring the force applied. As shown, the device comprises a rod 10 carrying a. member 13 for engagement with the brake pedal and screwing into a tubular rod 11 rotatable in a sleeve 16 to which is secured the casing 18 of a spring or other pressure gauge. The rod 11 has a solid end reduced at 10 to receive a stop 24 and abutting on a sliding rod 21 operatively connected to the pointer of the gauge. The back of the casing has a block 27 adapted to engage the seat of the vehicle or a block on the floor thereof. The rod 11 is rotatable bv a bar 26 to extend the device to apply the brakes. The device may be provided with a rack and pinion or pawl and ratchet mechanism to enable it to be first quickly and approximately set and then be finely adjusted.
