Abstract
319,960. Douglas Motors, Ltd., and Dixon, F. W. Oct. 20, 1928. Crank shafts. - Balance - weights for crank shafts surround and are secured to the crank webs and serve to retain in position the connecting -rod bigends and their bearings. The weights 6 are of ring form corresponding to the shape of the webs 3, and are secured in position by driving a tapered pin 14 into a slot in the web and thus forcing a curved rib 10 into engagement with a groove 12 in the web. Before the weight 6 is applied, the connecting rod 11 is threaded over the web 3 into position on the pin 9 and the bearing 17 is inserted in halves, the rod' and bearing being retained in position by the weight, which carries a curved projection 19 to assist this action.
