Crank shafts. - In mounting engine crank shafts of the kind in which the intermediate crank webs b form the main bearings of the shaft, freely rotatable or floating rings or bushes are interposed between the crank webs and fixed bearing surfaces carried by the crank case. To provide for lubrication under pressure, baffle devices may be arranged between the crank shaft and its bearing surfaces. These may comprise internal expanding piston rings fitted into grooves in the extremities of the floating bushes and also fitted in connection with end webs d if used as journals. The crank shaft shown is carried at its ends in roller bearings c, and is provided with a thrust bearing e, vibration damper f, gear wheel g, and flywheel flange h.
