319,816. Newton, N. B. June 28, 1928. Fluid - friction vibrationdampers.-In apparatus of the cylinder-and-piston type using a liquid and including a compensation chamber partly filled with a compressible fluid, a relatively large passage with a non-return valve in the pistonrod connects opposite ends of the cylinder in addition to small leak orifices in the piston. The piston e works in the cylinder a, the end of which is closed by a screwed cover d provided with a stuffing box for the piston rod e<1>. A cylindrical cover n<2> working on a packing protects the piston rod from dirt &c. The spaces above and below the piston which contain liquid communicate through small leak orifices and through a relatively large passage h<1> closed by a spring-loaded non- return valve k<1>.
