Abstract
319,800. International Processes, Ltd., and Ryner, A. March 28, 1928. Mine props.-Relates to a mine prop of the type formed of two section-bars with faces in contact and maintained frictionally engaged by means of an oscillatory double-armed clamp pivotally mounted on one section-bar and carrying a block at one end and a rotatable eccentric cam at the other which increases the friction between the surfaces on yielding. To increase, the adjustability of the friction, the block is replaced by a wedge m which bears against the outer face of the fixed member of the prop and against a cross bolt k<1> of the clamp. The wedge may have its rear face hollow, as shown in Fig. 3, and two eccentric cams r may be used at the other end of the clamp. In a further modification, the wedge may be provided with rollers u at its contacting points and may bear against, a cross roller v disposed across the end of the clamp, the eccentric cam t also being mounted on a roller w disposed at the other end of the clamp. In order to fix the parts of the props relatively to each other, a series of holes is provided in each, spaced at different distances to furnish a vernier adjustment.
