Abstract

400,457. Pit props. RAINE & CO., Ltd., FERGUSON, H. W. G., and MARCH, T. E., Gibb Chambers, Westgate Road, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Jan. 10, 1933, No. 842. [Class 20 (ii).] An improvement on the pit prop described in Specification 371,458 comprises the use of lateral extensions on the flanges of one section 1 and a transverse pin 7 to pass through apertures in those plates to press upon a part of the other section 2 which is looselv hinged at 4 to the first section. The pin 7 may be tapered lengthwise and disposed on either side of the extensions which in one form comprise a U-sleeve, the abutment on the other member being a hook-shaped plate 3, Fig. 6, or a channel-section bar with its web disposed outwardly. In a further modification, one section-bar is thickened and formed with a shoulder against which the end of the web of the other section-bar is pressed by the cross pin. This may be formed parallel, lengthwise and of cam cross section, so that the parts are locked by rotation of the pin.
