Abstract

319,617. British Tabulating Machine Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Carroll, F. M.). Sept. 24, 1928, [Convention date]. Statistical machines.-In machines provided with means for automatically initiating a total-printing operation when the last card is fed from the magazine. a device is provided and may be set so as to stop the machine before the last card is reached, thus enabling the magazine to be replenished without the taking of a total. The cards 6 are fed in the usual manner by a picker blade 10 and are backed by a follower plate 12 urged to the left by weights. Pivotally mounted at 21 is a plate 22 carrying in turn a bent plate 27 pivoted at 26 and extended at 28 to co-operate with a justifying pin 30. With the parts disposed as shown in full lines, the advance of the follower plate produces a counterclockwise displacement of the plate 22 and the consequent opening of a circuit at 25 to stop the machine. If, however, the plate 27 is set in the dotted line position no action by the follower occurs and the usual totaltaking operation therefore ensues with the feeding off the last card.
