Abstract

742,882. Doctors of paper-machines &c. SMITH, R. W. Feb. 8, 1954 [Feb. 18, 1953], No. 4554/53. Class 96. A doctor blade 10 for a roll 14 of a board or pulp making or creping or combining machine &c. is supported e.g. in a recess in a rod 16 which engages the back edge of the blade and receives projections 18 thereon, the rod 16 being cradled in lugs 20 projecting at spaced positions from a bar 12 riveted at 13 to the doctor-holder 11, the nose 21 of which bears on the blade 10. The lugs 20 are spaced 3 to 18 inches apart so that dirt &c. does not clog the blade mounting. In modifications: (1) a resilient plate is interposed between the nose of the holder 11 and the blade 10, lug 20 and bar 12 ; (2) the rod 16 is omitted, the lugs 20 being shaped to receive the back of the blade and its projections 18 ; and (3) the lugs 20 project from the holder 11 which is recessed to receive the bar 12, and the blade 10 is mounted directly in a slot in the rod 16.
