Abstract

319,527. Higgitt, H. V., and Eastern Telegraph Co., Ltd. Oct. 25, 1928. Fair-leads. - In recovering submarine cables from the sea bed, the cable D is passed over a fair-lead F inclined at an angle to the run of the cable and designed to twist the cable about its axis an amount to neutralise the untwisting action due to the weight of the cable. The modified form of fair-lead shown in Fig. 5 permits the angle of inclination of the fair-lead to be adjusted by means of a rack M with which engages a pinion E operated by worm gear.
