Abstract

14,246. Hunt, T. J., and Walker, M. E. June 15, 1910, [Convention date]. Mines, marine.-Relates to submarine mines mounted across a waterway on a cable track which can be slackened or tightened from the shore at either end to lower or raise the mines, a second cable also operated from the shore being used to move the mines along the cable track. A cross-section of about half the waterway is shown. According to this invention, the cable track 1 and the second cable 8 are so positioned with respect to the mine and its carriage 6, 4, as shown, that the carriage turns about the track as an axis when the cable 8 is tightened while the track is slack; in this way, the mine 6 is lowered at a safe depth below the track. Rollers 5 are provided to guide the mine carriage on the track, and defences 3 to protect the winding-stations.
