Abstract
1285600 Subaqueous drilling CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 19 Nov 1969 [19 Nov 1968] 56692/69 Heading E1F A marine conductor extends from a submerged wellhead assembly 40 to a floating platform and includes at its lower end portion a telescopic section 72. Cables 86 connected to the platform and extending around pulleys 90 on the wellhead assembly exert a downwardly directed force on the conduit at a location above the telescopic section to prevent buckling in the conduit. One end of each cable may be connected to the conduit as shown, or one or two cables may be looped over pulleys secured to the conduit with the ends of the or each cable being secured to the platform. The cables, which may be of nylon, rubber, steel, or steel and nylon, are tensioned, and are able to stretch as the platform and thus the conduit above the telescoping section 72 rises with respect to the sea floor and to exert a substantially constant force on the conduit. If necessary the length of the cables may be increased by running the cables over pulleys on the platform. The cables together with guide posts 48 act as guides for the blowout preventor stack 60 during lowering thereof while suspended from the conductor.
