Abstract

9152. Harland & Wolff, aud Armstrong, W. E. April 18. Winches.-Relates to winches for raising and lowering boats of the kind in which the drums a, b for the fall ropes are adjustable relatively to each other by means of a. worm and wormwheel in order that the boat may be lowered on an even keel; and consists in mounting one drum a fast on the shaft c and the other drum b on a loose sleeve g which carries at its outer end a bracket h and worm j engaging a worm-wheel k on the shaft c. The drums are normally locked together and driven from the shaft f by toothed gearing d, e, but by turning the worm j, their relative angular position may be adjusted.
