Boat raising and lowering gear.-Apparatus for raising and lowering ships' boats comprises a trimadjusting device connected to the boat and adapted to be operated by persons in the boat, and a winch having drums over which pass the falls, consisting of a single rope. The winch drums 4, 5 on which are wound the falls 20, are operated from the shaft 19 through toothed gearing 10, 16 and worm gearing 6, 9 so that they are locked against accidental rotations. The trim of the boat is adjusted by means of a grooved sheave 25 attached to one end of the boat and fitted with worm gear 30, so that the position of the boat longitudinally on the horizontal portion of the fall may be varied and thus effect an alteration of trim. The single rope constituting the falls passes over an ordinary sheave 24 at the other end of the boat, and between this sheave and the trim adjuster a strut 32 is fitted as shown.
