Low-pressure metallic-vapour apparatus. - To prevent arcbacks in mercury-arc rectifiers, an inverted pear-shaped anode 1 is surrounded by an insulated anode shield 3 which carries by means of radial plates 6 a protecting plate 5 and a series of truncated metal cones 4 which direct the arc to the tapered face of the anode.
