Abstract
319,083. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). June 27, 1928. Chemicals.-A process of extinguishing fires, particularly of finely divided combustibles, consists in spraying on to the combustibles a dilute aqueous solution of a highly active wetting agent not in the form of a foam. Such wetting agents referred to include soaps or saponin, the sulphonation products of organic compounds, such as Turkey red oil or the mixtures produted by the sulphonation of mineral oils or tars or fractions thereof. One example consists of one to two parts of the sodium salt, of a nahthalene sulphonic acid, containing one or more propyl or butyl groups, in one hundred parts of water. For extinguishing fires in closed compartments, wet steam loaded with a wetted agent may be used. In a modification of the process, combustible matter is sprayed with the wetting agent so that, in case of fire, water which is then sprayed on will quickly penetrate the matter. Specification 289,630 is referred to.
