318,436. Clark, D'A. M., (Bendix Brake Co.). Nov. 22, 1928. Blocks and shoes.-Friction material is secured to brake shoes by fastenings which are welded to the shoes. Friction material 16 is held on a brake shoe 14 by a spring plate 22 and electrodes 30 contact with fastenings 20 of steel or brass, which are thus electrically welded in position. The fastenings 20 may be hollow and have outturned edges, or they may be welded to the shoes before the application of the material 16, heads being afterwards riveted on them. The material 16 may be a moulded brake lining, and include embedded wires which are spot welded to the shoes.
