Abstract

1473342 Brake linings BLACKS EQUIPMENT Ltd 10 April 1975 [17 April 1974] 16791/74 Heading F2E A brake lining, e.g. for an external shoe drum brake, comprises a plurality of identical, spaced blocks 14 of moulded friction material located in grooves in a curved metal backing plate. The blocks are rectangular and circumferentially spaced with respect to the drum. They may extend completely or partially across the width of the shoe and in the latter case may be arranged to extend alternately from opposite sides of the shoe; Figs. 4 to 9 (not shown) illustrate such arrangements for shoes of specified dimensions. The blocks additionally be bonded to the backing plate 19; further grooves 20 in the plate provide points at which flexing of the plate can be accommodated without breaking the bond. The backing plate may itself be segmental.
