Abstract
318,408. Marks, Sir G. C., (Cameron Machine Co.). Oct. 4, 1928. Winding webs. - Rolls of paper, particularly for newspaper-printing presses, having the wire side of the paper, i.e. the side in contact with the wire surface in the paper-making machine, facing inwardly, are produced by winding the paper as it emerges from the calender of the paper mill into a roll with the wire side facing outwardly, unwinding the web without reversing the roll end for end, and rewinding the web into a roll mill with the wire side facing inwardly. The paper from the mill is wound into a roll 6 with the wire side WS outwardly and the roll is then placed without reversal into a roll support 13 of a rewinding-machine comprising a pair of winding-drums 9, 10 and a top pressure roller 11, the web passing over the drums so that the wire side faces inwardly on the rewound roll. Longitudinal slitters 12 may be provided to divide the web into strips.
