Abstract
520,672. Parcelling by bundling. BURGESS, A. F. (Paper Patents Co.). April 14, 1939, No. 11348. [Class 94 (i)] Multiply cellulose wadding formed by superposing thin sheets of creped cellulosic tissue and compressed as described in Speciflcation 492,571 in a direction perpendicular to that of the creping and parallel to the' plane of the tissues is wound into a roll which is held, e.g., by a stout paper cover P against expanding or unwinding. The wadding, fed between travelling belts, and plates 99, 100, is passed between a belt 14 travelling over a roll 15, and a core 25 on which it is wound. The belt 14 is tensioned' by a roller 18, and by a roller 17 on carriages 38 running on tracks 40 and supporting a cam plate 60. The carriages 38 move against fluid pressure in a cylinder 54, the cam 60 controlling a valve 62 so that the resistance and therefore the belt tension increases as winding proceeds. In an alternative arrangement the increase in tension is effected by a series of weights picked up successively as winding proceeds. When the cover P is in place, rolls 19, 20, 21 which support the belt 14 and are on a frame 22 pivoted at 23 and counterbalanced at 79, are raised to allow removal of the package. The wadding may be impregnated with asphalt.
