Tabulating-mechanisrn.-A flat platen having line-spacing movement is provided with linespace tabulating-mechanism comprising a number of stops on the frameworks and co-operating movable stops mounted on the platen frame. In the mechanism shown in Figs. 2 and 4, a flat platen is mounted in a frame C which is movable for line-spacing on a stationary frame A, a typecarriage having letter-spacing movement being mounted on rails 4, 5 on the frame A. A bar 86 detachably secured to cross rods 33, 87 on the frame A supports adjustable stops 92 having noses 96 in different lateral positions for co-operating with rocking stops 97 mounted on the frame C and connected to the stems 102 of line-selecting keys a - - d. The stops 92 are set with reference to a scale 105 and are secured by screws 93 which enter holes 94 in the bar. The stops 97 are pivoted on a bracket 98 and are held in contact therewith by springs 104. When any one of the keys is pressed inwards, the platen is moved rearwards in opposition to the pull of a spring drum 47 and is arrested in the selected line-space position by the associated pair of stops 92, 97. The type-carriage is associated with letter-space tabulating- mechanism comprising key-operated stops on the type-carriage and co-operating stops 109 on the framework.
