Air and gas compressing devices, applications of; direct air-pressure apparatus, automatic; raising by stages.-Apparatus for raising liquids by means of a natural head of liquid comprises a closed chamber C adapted to be filled by the head of liquid through pipes H, G when a valve b is open and valve a is closed. The air displaced from the chamber C escapes through a pipe D, closed chamber B, and a pipe F dipping in the liquid to be raised. On closing valve b and opening valve a, the chamber C empties through the pipe G, thereby creating a vacuum in the chamber B, into which liquid from the chamber A rises through the pipe F. During the next cycle the air displaced from the chamber C into chamber B expels the liquid from the latter through the U-shaped pipe E. A series of chambers A, B may be used for raising the liquid by stages. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 9287/86, 10051/07, 181,762, and 182,412.
