Abstract

317,971. Lane, L. July 27, 1928. Glazing.-An astragal or like jointsupporting bar A, Fig. 3, for roofs or walls consisting of flat sheets of glass, asbestos, or the like, comprises a web 10, flanged base 11, sheet supporting flanges 12, end an enlarged head 13 which forms with the supporting flanges 12 a recess in which lie the edges of the sheets 15 and a surrounding sealing strip 14, preferably of asbestos, wool, or the like, saturated with a substance such as asphalt having a melting temperature of over 200‹ F. The capping 16 of channel form is secured by screws and has a line contact with the sealing strip or with an additional metal cap 314. At the base of a wall or ridge of a roof a bar B is used, Fig. 2, the sheet resting in a recess on the support 21 and being secured by a clip 123 outside and spaced from a plaster board or like wall material C. The sheet material may have sealing material permanently secured thereto in manufacturing with vertical joint-bars A, Fig. 3, a channel strip 314 is applied over the bar and edges of the sheets and secured by capping 16. The sealing strip 14 may be doubled. The edges 17, and 123 of the cappings are offset inwardly to engage the sealing strip adjustably.
