Abstract

322,073. Buchanan, A. Nov. 8, 1928. Glazing roofs.-The glazed roofs of greenhouses and other buildings, forcing frames, and the like, are supported by rafters so that the panes 10 slope transversely relative to the rafters, drainage channels 4 being provided on the rafters 2 at the lower edges of the panes. The drainage channels are of zinc or like metal and are secured by clips 5, Fig. 12. Glass supporting bars 8 are supported on the central web of the clips 5 and have slots engaging the wings 7 bent from the said clips and stops 12 for the lower corners of the panes. The panes are secured to the upper rafters by spiked clips 13 secured by nails 17, and provided with tongues 15, 16 engaging the corners of overlapped panes. Capping 18 is secured to the rafters 1 by screws &c. The space between the glass 10 and the eave plate 22<1> is blocked by zinc channels 21<1>, Fig. 16, spaced from the plate to allow drainage. An alternative form of clip 22 is strained by wire and a nut 24<1> to draw the pane against the lower rafter, Figs. 27 and 28. The lower rafter may be of rolled steel formed with an integral trough, shoulders, and web, and the panes may be secured thereto by capping pinned to the web. The rafters may be arranged at the same level, as shown in Fig. 18, and constructed as illustrated in Fig. 22, troughs 37 being carried by clips 40 and supports 36, and capping being mounted as shown. The lower rafter for a roof arranged as shown in Fig. 19 is illustrated in Fig. 23, the glass supports 41 having a stud-andslot engagement at their ends. Zinc flashing is provided for the junction of roof and wall at the ridge. Removable caps are provided for the lower end of the trough 4.
