Abstract

316,763. Anderson, J. July 23, 1928. Electric conductors.-In means for disintegrating obsolete electric cables, the cable 7 is fed by grooved feed-rolls 5 to a die 3 which unwinds the wire or other stranded covering, the insulation is stripped by a device 18, and the core is wound upon a drum 21. The mechanism is driven through appropriate gearing from an electro-motor. The die 9 is rotated about the .axis of the cable and bears a central hole through which the insulated core is fed and marginal holes each of which takes a wire of the covering. A cutter 14 is, by a cam, projected into the path of th ewires to effect severance. The insulation is stripped by a stationary mechanism 18 and is fed down a shoot 19. The cable may be subjected to heat treatment or to the action of solvent or corrosive fluid.
