316,485. Sundberg, R. C., and Torulf, H. G. Oct. 31, 1928. Combing-machines. - In a combing- machine of the Heilmann type a series of detaching segments 9 are mounted on the comb shaft 17 and are adapted to rotate thereon independently of the comb 6. The comb may be provided with needles 7 over the whole of its circumference and may be rotated at an increased speed. The segments 9 have a radius slightly greater than the points of the needles and in rotation engage the tuft and remove it from the needles, whereupon it is engaged and drawn off and pieced by the usual detaching rollers 10, 11, 12. The rear end of the combed tuft is combed by the top comb 14, or this comb mav be omitted and the rear end of the tuft 13 be combed, when it is returned by the rollers 11, 12 for piecing, by the cylinder 6. The segments 9 are supported at the ends by discs 8 on hollow shafts 18 and between the heads of the machine by loose rings mounted on the comb cylinder between the combs. The radius of the rings is slightly less than the internal radius of the segments 9. Axial movement is prevented by screws on the rings engaging grooves in the cylinder.
