Abstract

316,366. Rehse, M. May 17, 1928. Pumping-apparatus.-A unit of the type comprising a submersible alternating-current motor driving a pump and fed through a transformer, is made of tubular form and of diameter sufficiently small to allow the unit to enter narrow bore pipes. The transformer is mounted directly above the motor and cooling is effected by passing the pumped liquid through or around the motor and transformer. Fig. 1 shows a section through the transformer and Fig. 2 a section through the motor and pump which are mounted below the transformer. Fig. 7 is a transverse section through the motor. The motor c and pump b, together with the transformer w, are contained in a casing within a well tube a, the transformer compartment being soldered or otherwise rendered liquid-tight. The motor shaft d is hollow and conveys the pumped liquid to an ascension pipe g passing through the transformer but in the case of a very narrow. bore well pipe, a solid motor shaft is employed and the liquid passes to the ascension pipe through tubes e, Fig. 7, placed in the stator laminae and soldered to the upper and lower covers of the motor casing. The internal cooling action of the liquid is assisted by liquid which emerges through holes l and flows between the external wall of the casing and a pressure equalizing casing k.
