Abstract

316,196. Rognon, J. A. July 24, 1928, [Convention date]. Fluxes.-A flux for low temperature welding of metals, particularly of aluminium and its alloys, consists of a mixture of borax and zinc chloride to which may be added one or more of the bromides of sodium, aluminium, and ammonium. A composition giving good results is : Borax 18 parts by weight, zinc chloride 40 parts, sodium bromide 34 parts, and aluminium or ammonium bromide 8 parts. The constituents are rapidly mixed in a finely pulverized state in the cold, and the flux can be used for welding at low temperatures, e.g. about 95‹ C., prior cleansing or preparation of the metal surfaces and the use of metal solder being unnecessary.
