Abstract

316,103. Bayerische Metallwerke Akt.-Ges. July 20, 1928, [Convention date]. Cementation. - Surface-hardening of metal articles, for example of tungsten, is effected by heating them in a hydrocarbon-containing atmosphere at a temperature of the order of 1400- 1600‹ C. and below 2500‹ C. Suitable hydrocarbons are acetylene or benzol; or substances such as glycerine, naphthalene, or colophony, which yield hydrocarbons, may be used. The operation may be effected in the presence of a catalyst, which may be ammonia, and under pressure. Specification 23988/07, [Class 82, Metals and alloys], is referred to.
