Abstract

309,161. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., (Assignees of Clifford, A. W.). April 7, 1928, [Convention date]. Thiodiarylamines are obtained by heating a diarylamine with sulphur preferably in presence of a trace of iodine. The reaction is carried out under pressure and at high temperatures, preferably 180-190‹ C., and o-o<1>-dimercaptodiarylamines are represented as intermediate products of the reaction. The process is described in an example using diphenylamine as starting material and in like manner products are obtained from phenyl - 2 - naphthylamine, phenyl-1-naphthylamine, and 2: 2<1>-dinaphthylamine. The products. are of use as rubber preservatives.
