Embossing processes and machines.-Designs are stamped on bands of paper or textile material by passing the material b, together with a band f of elastic material such as felt, between a heated engraved cylinder e and a counter-pressure element in the form of a travelling band guided by the rollers g, i so as to form a trough-shaped supporting surface. As shown, the band f is continuous and passes over a tensioning roller h and guide rollers g. It may, however, be in the form of a web passing from a supply roll through the machine to a rewinding-roll. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), the counterpressure element may be a heated trough-shaped block i or an impression cylinder. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
