Abstract

241,162. Palm, O., and Palm, H., (trading as Palm Geb.). Oct. 9, 1924, [Convention date]. Printing in paper-machines. - Patterns in colours, discharges, or other liquids are applied to a paper web in the course of manufacture by passing the web into contact with a roller having an absorbent printing surface, the web pressing on the roller only by its own weight. The printing apparatus is arranged in the paper-making machine at any suitable position beyond the couching rollers. The web e is guided by rollers d, d into contact with the printing-roller c having an absorbent surface which receives the liquid from a roller b rotating in a trough a. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a modified form of machine in which the printing-roller c, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), is set slightly out of contact with the surface of the roller b so as to run in the film of liquid carried thereby. By this arrangement, the quantity of liquid supplied to the printing-roller may be adjusted by varying the speed of the roller b. The surface of the roller b may be grooved to carry more liquid and such grooves may be formed by winding a thread or wire around the roller, or the roller may be covered with a suitable textile fabric. Adjustment of the roller c may be effected by screwoperated levers g engaging the bearings c' slidably mounted in guides f. The rollers d, d may be adjusted horizontally and vertically to vary the lap of the web about the roller c. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted but now forms the subjectmatter of Specification 247,964.
